Joss Whedon Talks ‘Avengers 2′

Avengers news has been coming in thick and fast over the last few weeks. And now with it being confirmed that Marvel are going to make a sequel to Joss Whedon's adventure an interview with the director and the LA Times has revealed his mindset behind continuing to work on the franchise.

"You know, I'm very torn. It's an enormous amount of work telling what is ultimately somebody else's story, even though I feel like I did get to put myself into it. But at the same time, I have a bunch of ideas, and they all seem really cool."

Whedon also told Entertainment Weekly that a follow up might feature more female cohorts. "Studios will tell you: 'A woman cannot headline an action movie.' After The Hunger Games they might stop telling you that a little bit. Whatever you think of the movie, it's done a great service. And after The Avengers, I think it's changing."

‘The Avengers’ Sinks ‘Battleship’ in the Box Office (VIDEO)

The Avengers Iron Man
'The Avengers' Is Still On Top!

It's been three weeks since The Avengers hit theaters, but the movie is showing no signs of slowing down in the Box Office. The superhero extravaganza broke records during its opening weekend when it raked in an impressive $200 million. The Avengers has also had an impressive run worldwide, bringing in a total of $723.3 million internationally to push it's global total to $1.18 billion.

Before its release, Battleship was considered as a major contender in the Box Office, but now that the figures from the weekend are in, it seems like Battleship is the one that's sinking.

Surprise, Surprise ‘The Avengers 2′ Is On It’s Way

Well well well, Who could have seen this coming? What with The Avengers doing reasonably well at the worldwide box office over the last week or two, Marvel has decided to take a risk and start work on a sequel to the combined adventures of Thor, Captain America, IronMan, The Hulk et al.

Of course this is all at a very early stage of production, with Disney boss Bob Iger simply announcing that an Avengers follow-up is 'in the works.' This was always going to happen though after Joss Whedon's movie smashed almost every box-office record in existence and received so many positive his reviews that his mother must be gushing with so much pride she could burst.

It will be interesting to see how they manoeuvre the sequels into the films of Iron Man 3, Captain America 2, Thor 2 and Mark Ruffalo's debut feature turn as The Hulk, each of which are due out over the coming years and if Whedon himself will return to the fray!

The end-credits sequence did leave the possibility of a return open so it's time to return to the cinema and devour that sequence over and over again for clues to what might be in the next film.

Also it'll be good to look at Scarlett Johansson's bodacious behind once again. Wowser!

‘The Avengers’ Smashes US Box Office Record

Well, it seems like The Avengers has hit a chord with quite a few people then, hit a chord to the tune of $200 million over it's opening weekend.

This has eclipsed the previous best opening weekend of $169 million in July 2011 by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and also means that Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises will need to amass a great haul to beat this record.

But when you consider that both The Dark Knight and Spider-Man 3 took just shy of $160 million when they were originally released maybe there is still hope for Christian Bale's latest rendition of the Caped Crusader and The Amazing Spider-Man.

One Word Movie Reviews: THE AVENGERS

Marvelous.

Mark Ruffalo Signs A Six Picture Deal With Marvel

The Avengers has already been lauded by critics and filmgoers alike for it's perfect blend of action, comedy and Scarlett Johansson wearing extremely tight lycra.

Yet it has been Mark Ruffalo's perfectly reserved performance as Bruce Banner which has seen many viewers pine for a Hulk spin-off of his own. And it looks like those people are about to have their wish come true with the news that "The Ruff" has signed a 6 picture deal with Marvel studios. A bet that's more than you bargained for isn't it.

It's safe to assume that The Avengers was the first of his six with The Hulk bound to have a cameo in maybe one of the sequels to Thor, Iron Man or Captain America before bounding off on his own little journey.

But it's great to see Ruffalo get his chance to perform in his own blockbuster franchise and hopefully he can do a better job than both Ed Norton and Ed Bana did. With his performance in The Avengers going a long way to prove that he already has.
