Why We Shouldn’t Panic About Team USA Squeaking Past Brazil

The USA Olympic Men's Basketball team only managed to beat the squad from Brazil by 11 points in an exhibition game last night. That doesn't mean that we should be worried about the team just yet. There are holes in their game that need to be addressed, yes, but the U.S. is still the favorite to take home gold in London and should accomplish just that.

Top to bottom, the U.S. is by far the deepest team. The big issue right now is chemistry. The team hasn't been together that long and the majority weren't on the 2008 Olympic team, or even the 2010 World Championship team. They need more time to come together and get used to playing as a team.

The big problem is the 'big' problem. The loss of Blake Griffin and not having Chris Bosh means the U.S. really only has Tyson Chandler as their lone big man. As I said before, that could be a problem against a team like Spain, which has Pau and Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka.

But what the team lacks in interior size, they make up for with LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant and Kevin Love. All of these guys can play multiple positions and are nightmares to guard for smaller players.

The U.S. will get a taste of the Spanish team in an exhibition before the Olympics start. Now that's an exhibition to look forward to.
