New Star Wars Comic Gives Admiral Ackbar the Epic Final Moment ‘The Last Jedi’ Denied Him

Among the many smart things J.J. Abrams did with The Force Awakens was to bring beloved Rebellion hero Admiral Ackbar back into the newly formed Resistance. One of two unforgivable sins in The Last Jedi, for my money, was the character's unceremonious death that is only dealt with in a single line of dialogue.

Granted, the moment of Ackbar's death was also the peak of a fierce Force confrontation between Leia and her son, and Rian Johnson was clearly focused on that and not the beloved Mon Calamari. But the minute the audience finds out that Ackbar was among those killed in the attack, you retroactively need something, anything to drive that fact home.

Thankfully the comics can give us what the movies can't. Courtesy of Comic Book Movie, the latest issue of The Last Jedi comic book adaptation features the Admiral's last words. Steel yourselves...

Heartbreaking stuff. Absolutely heartbreaking. Then again, this is what you can do with a longer format, I suppose, but it's not like The Last Jedi was a lean, mean fighting machine. There's lots of fat in that flick to trim, and I'm saddened that this was a moment that went away.

Also, is it just me or does Leia look like that botched painting restoration from a few years back?

Not sure what's going on there, but at least we got to bid a fond farewell to a fan favorite character at last.
