12 months ago, the last thing that would have been on Serena Williams' mind would have been playing at Wimbledon. She'd spent a year out of action with a leg injury and a subsequent pulmonary embolism that not only threatened her career, but risked her life.

Now though, Serena is celebrating the night away having lifted her fifth Wimbledon singles crown after defeating Agnieszka Radwanska in 3 sets, 6-1 5-7 6-2. This is her 14th Grand Slam title and adds to her grass court victories in 2002, 2003, 2009 and 2010.

Williams dominated the first set before a rain-delay allowed Radwanska to re-group and claim the second. However Serena proved too powerful for the Russian and she was to break her twice in the last set to confirm the championship for her.

The 30-year-old then had the audacity to follow up this success with a doubles title alongside her sister Venus later on in the day too. Williams power was the key to her performance as she served a total of 102 aces on her way to lifting the trophy, more than any other woman has ever managed in a Wimbledon campaign.

She is now fourth behind Margaret Court, Steffi Graf and Martina Navratilova for the most amount of career titles in the Open era.
