Awesome Artist Hides Zelda Treasure Chests Around Texas

Artists, as we all know, can get a little batshit crazy sometimes. The regular watercolors-on-a-canvas type guys, they're fine; harmlessly knocking out the kind of stuff grandmas put up in their living rooms and not bothering anyone. But ‘art' is a hell of a broad term, isn't it?

Before you know what the eff, Damien Hirst is exhibiting a shark's scrote in a tank of formaldehyde, and someone else is being called a genius for displaying a blob of blu-tak on a wall or something. Generally speaking, art is freaking beyond me. But I know what I like. And what do I really, really like? This guy.

Ezekiel Buchheit has been getting his art on in Texas for a couple years now. A nerdly gamer at heart, his Hyrule in Austin project started subtly. As Kotaku reports, he'd paint legendary Zelda murals --‘It's Dangerous To Go Alone! Take This'—under bridges and such. Then he hit on an awesome, Zeldatastic idea: treasure chests. Treasure chests hidden throughout Austin for fellow fans to find.

Buchheit makes both chest and contents himself, and they're pretty damn sweet. As the man himself puts it on his Tumblr,

I make Zelda related things. Then I place them as little interactive art installations around Austin Texas. Sometimes downtown, sometimes in caves along hiking trails. Always intended to make people's day that much better.
