During the Outback Bowl yesterday, South Carolina’s Jadeveon Clowney delivered the hit of the year. Sure that’s easy to say because it happened on January 1st, but check back here in 12 months and I bet this will still be the best hit of 2013. Michigan’s Vincent Smith probably still has a headache, and really he’s lucky to still have a head.
Clowney goes unblocked through the line and just as Smith is handed the ball, Clowney absolutely demolishes him, sending Smith’s helmet flying and knocking the ball loose. Clowney picks up the ball while still on top of Smith, who seems to be reaching for it, but there’s no way he was coherent. That was probably just a reaction.
The BCS title game is just under two weeks away, with Alabama and Notre Dame facing off on January 7th in Miami. Probably bored with the long wait, some Notre Dame fans, or maybe just some tee-shirt guys who were looking to make a few bucks, have come up with the shirt you see above. Golden Domers vs. Mobile Homers. Hilarious?
It’s an unofficial shirt, so no blame should be laid towards Notre Dame’s way. But when your team hasn’t been a contender for two decades, maybe as a fan it’s better to think of something a little more creative. All this does is push the snotty stereotype of rich kids making fun of those darn Southerners. It’s not really a big deal in the long run probably, but it’s going to look even sillier if Notre Dame gets their golden domes handed to them by those guys who live in mobile homes.

Rodney Williams is a 6’7″ senior forward for the University of Minnesota. The 13th ranked Golden Gophers took on North Dakota State last night and in an otherwise pedestrian win, Williams showed off his hops.
Williams makes a steal, throws it out ahead of himself a little bit and amazingly after just one dribble from half court, takes off for a pretty sick 360. Williams got some good distance on the leap, but unfortunately couldn’t finish it off cleanly. He makes the dunk rather effortlessly, but his momentum throws him off balance a bit and he ends up on his ass. That takes nothing away from how athletic of a play it was though.
Life is good for Johnny Football. Not only did Texas A&M freshman QB Johnny Manziel just win the Heisman, he also has a model girlfriend, and now he’s appearing on national TV showing off his personality. After being shielded from the press all season thanks to his coach’s rule against freshmen speaking to the media, Manziel seems to be enjoying getting his face and voice out there.
Manziel stopped by The Late Show with David Letterman and gave the Top Ten Perks of Winning the Heisman. Letterman’s writers did a pretty good job with the list. David also brought up a good point, that Manziel potentially could win three more Heismans. He won’t because it’s hard and because he probably won’t stay in college for three more years, but that would be insane. If Manziel pulls it off again next season, it might be worth it to stick around and try for another and become the first person to ever do that. Or, like Letterman suggested, he could quit football now and open a Dairy Queen. Tough call.
Johnny Manziel became the first freshman to ever win the Heisman trophy, and ever since the world got a glimpse of his girlfriend people have kind of been freaking out. Johnny Football has a pretty hot lady, a model (natch) named Sarah Savage.
So wait, you’re telling me that star football players can land hot chicks? Talk about a game changer. When did this start happening?
Well, congrats to Manziel. Not for the Heisman, but for already having something else who would make most guys jealous.
What a weekend! I know I must say that all the time, but I think it is safe to say that it has been a fantastic season on and off the gridiron this year!
The college regular season is now officially done now that the last game, the Army/Navy game, has been played. It might pit the two biggest programs in the nation against each other, but they are definitely two of the most historic and most deserving of the respect of fans and non-fans alike. The weekend also saw the culmination of the college awards season with some history being made as Johnny ‘Football’ Manziel took home the Heisman.
Tack that on with a whole lot of drama on and off the NFL field–including the FBI and the Redskins–and you have the makings of a great week for football fans everywhere!

When the college football season started, a lot of the world assumed the Heisman trophy was USC’s Matt Barkley‘s to lose (which of course he did). After Barkley, Geno Smith appeared to be the man in charge (until he wasn’t). Then it became Collin Klein‘s award to lose (which thanks to a shocking performance by a poor Baylor defense he probably has).
The Heisman trophy and who is expected to win it is something that is followed almost as closely as who the contestants for the national title will be. We are talking about designating a single player as the best player in college football for the last season; everyone wants to be able to say they called it way back in [insert arbitrary date here].
