One Major Free Agent Chooses Team

One thing that really sucks about the off-season is when fans are forced to wait and see if their favorite player is coming back to the team or leaving for another team. Waiting and watching as the media makes a big spectacle out of each and every visit he makes to a team is just excruciating.

If only players would just narrow down their choices to a few teams, make their visits, and then make a decision without all the drama. Wait--that's actually exactly what Deron Williams has done.

Yes, there was a ton of speculation all season long, but since we have games to distract us from the BS that's okay.

Free agency kicked off last weekend; Williams made it no secret that his choice of teams was down to two, Brooklyn Nets and Dallas Mavericks. He met with both teams on Monday and by Tuesday we had a decision--he's staying with the Nets. July 11 will be the first day he'll be able to sign his 5-year, $98 million contract.

Dallas was tempting. It had home town appeal since Williams grew up in the area. It had an owner with a reputation for doing what it takes to win. The team would have been built around him and Dirk Nowitzki.

With all the deals that the Nets have been making over the last couple of days Williams must have decided that the Nets do want to win, and are making efforts to build a better team as it moves to a new home next season. The addition of Joe Johnson and Gerald Wallace along with Williams and Brook Lopez will probably make the Nets the best team in the Big Apple next season.

To make the outlook even better, the team is still in the running for Dwight Howard, too (all be it no longer a front runner).
