TV & FILM

We're a little over two weeks away from the latest chapter in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter—Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald—and we don't know much about the film beyond it being another story of stopping a Wizarding World version of Hitler. It helps that they cast a repulsive actor to play this repulsive character, but once upon a time, this particular branch of the franchise was concerned with Fantastic Beasts and where to find them.
This new featurette puts the focus back on the titular beasts, with Newt Fancylad's favorite creatures taking center stage in this minute long deep dive into the film's menagerie. Back when I thought this franchise was going to be Pokémon but in the Harry Potter universe, that sounded interesting. Instead, these have grown into Hobbit-esque monstrosities that basically rehash the formula behind what worked before.
It's a pretty boneheaded decision on their part to just travel back down the same roads we've already trod, especially when the possibilities to do virtually anything else have already been exhausted. There's some fun to be had in these new movies, I guess, but they're pretty weak sauce compared to the Potter stories.
Fancy Lads and Where to Find Them: The Scarves of Scarvelous will be in theaters two weeks from Friday.
