Karla Souza’s Mexico Rape Experience

The only thing worse than being in Mexico is being raped in Mexico, and in an interview with CNN, How to Get Away With Murder actress Karla Souza alleged that she endured just that while shooting a movie at the beginning of her acting career. The native Mexican had the true Cancun Spring Break experience shared with roughly nine out of ten sorority girls when a creepy man - in this case her director -  widdled down her dignity until he could force himself into her pants.

He knocked at my door saying he wanted to go over some scenes and I thought it’s 2 a.m., it’s not appropriate and it’s something that shouldn’t be happening. The next day he decided not to shoot my scene and then he suddenly started to humiliate me in front of the others on the set. This was the psychological control that he held over me.

I ended up giving in to him [to let him] kiss me, to touch me in ways I did not want him to touch me and in one of those instances, he attacked me violently and yes, he raped me.

Mexico! Worse things have happened in Mexico, such as the food and culture, but Souza's confession is mostly an eye-opener for letting us know for the first time ever that people in the entertainment industry can be untrustworthy. I know. The people you least suspect. My benchmark for ethics in the movie industry is child Judy Garland getting sexually molested by midgets on the set of The Wizard of Oz. The only silver lining for Souza is that thousands of aspiring actresses have endured equal treatment without any sort of career payoff, and at least Souza is on a hit series. I think that's the lesson? Or maybe it's that I should get over my one experience of getting violently ill for two days in Mexico because in the hotel room next to me the star of a B movie was probably getting raped? IDK. Mexico!
