TMZ Reports That Henry Cavill Superman Business is All a Publicity Stunt

It's tough to know whom to trust in this industry, as stories come out, are validated by multiple sources, and then get summarily dismissed as a publicity stunt. The latest story dominating the news cycle—at least in the world of those covering comic book movies—is that DC and WB had decided to part ways with current Superman Henry Cavill.

It may have been the mustache debacle or because the actor's scheduling conflicts kept him from shooting a cameo in Shazam!, but it seemed that DC was ready to move past the Snyder-era by dumping Cavill.

According to TMZ, however, this whole thing has to be a manufactured conflict for one simple reason...

Sources in the know tell TMZ, there's no real discussion over the main role because there's no active 'Superman' project.

The article then goes on to state that Cavill will be in play when the Man of Steel returns to the big screen, but he no longer has a lock on the role...

We're told if and when the next 'Superman' project is greenlit, Cavill along with others would be in play. If, for example, a director felt he was the perfect guy for the role, he could end up with another cape assuming he and the studio could come to terms.

Apparently, this all boils down to the fact that Cavill seemed to be moving on by taking the lead role in Netflix's upcoming adaptation of The Witcher, coupled with the fact that Superman's not on the movie docket for DC until at least 2020. The whole thing made for a juicy story—look how much traction I've gotten out of it—but it was apparently a non-story all along.
