Oregon Ducks Football Must Love 4/20

April 20th has become sort of an unofficial holiday for many people. For those same folks the time of 4:20 is a little special as well. Hitler was born on 4/20, but these folks could care less. In Holland that is the time that people drink their ‘tea' as well.

Marijuana smokers around the world have a special affinity for 4/20, the date, the time, or just the number itself. If recent media reports can be believed, the mighty Oregon Ducks football team really loves it. Apparently as much as 60 percent of the team (and as low as 40 percent) like to toke up from time to time.

Head Coach Chip Kelly of course refutes the claim and says that there is no way in the world that number could be true. He doesn't believe that there is any way a team that smokes that much pot could have gone 34-6 in the last three seasons. Apparently he thinks they'd be a bit too relaxed and content with just being.

If you think about it though, if there was going to be a campus and team that might be smoking that often it would be one like Oregon. The state prohibits random drug tests so there is no chance of getting caught off guard and getting busted. Oregon is one of the first states to decriminalize marijuana (doing so back in 1973) and one of the leaders in creating a medical marijuana policy. There are now more than 55,000 card-carrying legal-smokers in the state of Oregon!

Chip Kelly has stated that he hasn't seen signs of such prevalent use yet there have been players (who have chosen to remain anonymous) that have talked about smoking right before the team went on to beat Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl. According to an unamd player it's a team thing—like video games.

So if Kelly wants to catch them he just needs to see who isn't playing video games?

In all fairness, the issue is not just with the Oregon Ducks. The study that brought the Ducks use to light claims that just under a quarter of all student athletes smoke marijuana with football having the highest rate (26.7 percent).
