It's been rumored and talked about a lot, but the world had yet to see the Asus Padfone in the flesh (or is it in the metal?) The long wait is over, however, as the manufacturer finally unveiled the three-in-one device at the recently concluded Mobile World Congress.

The Asus Padfone is a phone, a tablet, and a laptop, all crammed into one nifty package. It's pretty cool, really, how Asus carried out the whole thing. First and foremost, the Padfone is a phone. It boasts of a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a 960 by 540 resolution and runs on Qualcomm's dual-core Snapdragon S4 microprocessor. It will come with a rear-facing 8-megapixel camera and a front-facing VGA shooter.

Now if you want to turn it into the tablet, you can get the optional Padfone Station. Hooking up your Padfone onto the unit will convert it into a 10.1-inch tablet, increasing the battery life up to five times in the process. The tablet shell has a 1280 by 800 resolution display made of Gorilla glass and lets you do all your work and perform any task that you normally do on the phone on the tablet itself. The Station's front-facing camera is a lot better than the one on the Padfone since it can capture 1.3-megapixel images.

Lastly, if you want to further transform the whole thing into a laptop, then you'll want to get the Padfone Station Dock. This is actually a keyboard dock where you insert the tablet into to turn it into a ten-inch notebook. The dock comes with a micro SD card slot and USB port as well, which are two things that most tablet owners wish they had on their tablets.

There's no word yet on pricing, although reports indicate that the Padfone will be shipping out sometime in April.
