This ‘The Witcher’ Postage Stamp Is Badass In A Way Stamps Have No Right To Be

The more dedicated gamers among us probably have something snarky to say about the rise of mobile gaming. No doubt there’ll be mentions of ‘casuals’ and a general e-peen stroking feeling of superiority involved. If you’re not being a cynical ol’ dude, though, this mainstreamification (yep, that’s a thing) of games can be seen as a positive.

Just look at the crap-your-pants success of Pokémon Go. I saw a huge-ass tattooed dude shriek like a lil’ girl because he’d found himself a Pikachu, and that sure says something about how well the game’s done. A lot of different publishers since have said that they want to get on that gravy train; Go is subtly changing the future of video games.

The industry is becoming more mainstream in all kinds of ways. Street Fighter V tournament finals on ESPN? That was a thing. Vitalina Batsarashkina winning the silver in the 100m air pistol in Rio, while repping a Witcher pendant? That totally happened too. Now there’s an official The Witcher postage stamp.

Now, I’m from Merry Olde England, and I can tell you that our stamps aren’t cool at all. If you want dear ol’ Queen Lizzie with a face like she’s sitting on the shitter with a blockage, then we’ve got you covered, but otherwise? Nah. Down Poland way, though, they’ve just released a limited run of this bad boy:

Because Geralt with a face like he’s sitting on the shitter with a blockage is infinitely cooler. Good job, Poland. For the confused souls among you, this does make a kind of sense: Poland is the home of the Witcher, a game series based on the novels of Polish writer Adrzej Sawpkowski.
