We were all bummed out this week with the passing of the great Harold Ramis. Not only were his films funny they were also philosophical. I've spent many nights contemplating the ideas brought up in the movie Groundhog Day, for example. Another one of Ramis' most philosophical films is Caddyshack. In one of the film's most iconic scenes, Bill Murray tells the tale of caddying for the Dalai Lama. He says,
"The flowing robes, the grace, bald … striking. So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one — big hitter, the Lama — long, into a 10,000-foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga … gunga, gunga-lagunga.And I say, ‘Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know.' And he says, ‘Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.' So I got that goin' for me, which is nice."
It's been thirty years and the question has finally been answered: Does the Dalai Lama golf? His Holiness was asked this pressing question and the answer, alas is no. But apparently he kicks ass at ping pong. Namaste, bitches.
