TV & FILM

Now that they've proven their ability to competently make massive films and not crack under the pressure, folks are wondering about what will be next for The Russo Brothers after they've finished their current work with Marvel. It would seem natural that Disney would want to retain their services and hire them to make one of these Star Wars movies. After all, they're probably one of the only directing teams around who could see the thing through from start to finish.
Well, the brothers stopped by Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused Podcast and were asked if they'd considered it, and they gave about as diplomatic an answer as they could considering their still employed and it would be unseemly to beg for another job. Joe Russo—the shorter one who actually looks Italian—had this to say about the possibility...
You know, when we're done telling stories in Marvel, then is there the opportunity to maybe go tell some other stories? We've not hidden the fact that Star Wars was a seminal experience like it was for everyone else. And that when The Empire Strikes Back came out, I sat in a theater from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and I watched it back-to-back-to-back. So I think we appreciate that universe as much as anyone. The question would be, 'Can we find a story to tell in it? And what is it?'
Funny, I would've thought Return of the Jedi and Leia's metal bikini would have been the most seminal of the Star Wars films. Maybe I'm misunderstanding their meaning.
Anyway, it would be nice for Lucasfilm to release a film besides The Last Jedi that had the same writers and directors all the way through production, and these guys have proven pretty unflappable in the face of absolutely gigantic filmmaking. It seems like a natural fit.
