Katy Perry Says a Ton of Stupid

There's some unchallenged belief that commercially successful music artists are intelligent. Whereas the actual spectrum of smarts among the top selling pop stars likely matches the bell curve of the rest of society. The bulk of them are of average intelligence. Some small number may be particularly clever of mind. And some percentage, necessarily, utter morons.

Katy Perry was asked on an Australian radio show what her devout Christian parents think about her sexually suggestive song lyrics. In particular, Perry enticing listeners to "enjoy her cherry pie" in her Bon Appetit single. Super fresh metaphor.

"We agree to disagree but still with loving space. We all come from different places … you can have your belief system, nobody is telling you not to believe your beliefs but you can also come from a place of love.”

If you listen to Bob Dylan and Katy Perry speak, both sound obtuse. Replay Dylan and you'll realize there's something profound behind the mumble. With Katy Perry, it's only mumble. She speaks in empty catchphrases and meme quips. Like Chauncey Gardiner, uncomfortably expressing backyard maintenance tips.

This isn't an outlier moment. Perry speaks like this all the time. Is she a sage eons ahead in her thinking, or perhaps a pretty girl with a nice rack and rocks between her ears? Some number of these pretty people with twenty-five million followers have to be complete idiots. Technically speaking. Figuratively speaking, it's almost all.
