French director Luc Besson (Léon & The Fifth Element) is returning to fantastical sci-fi worlds with his latest film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Don't think about the title too much or it'll make your head hurt. Focus your energy instead on this new trailer for the film that shows off the truly fantastical film he's got in store for us later this summer!

Based on a French graphic novel of the same name from the late 1960s, Valerian tells the story of two special operatives in the 28th Century trying to keep law and order in a lawless world. While the two leads—Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne—are hardly proven commodities, they look to be the least important things about this fantasy film which seems far more concerned with taking the audience to worlds we've only dreamed of. In other words, it's a popcorn movie, but what else do we want during the dog days of summer?

While it remains to be seen just how groundbreaking and visionary the film actually is, the trailers certainly make it seem like a can't miss proposition. So make sure you've got lots of buttery popcorn and fizzy drinks ready for when the film hits North American theaters on July 21!
