It seems like everyone and their mother knows how to surfboard these days, which is kind of making it lose some cool points. I was fine with the grandpa from Johnny Tsunami surfing back in the day, but I think he set a bad precedent.

Some people just have no respect for the sport, but that isn’t me. I understand the repercussions if I am seen doing something, and I take that into account before deciding whether or not to do it. That is why I would never surf. I know the sight of my pale hairy legs on a board would cause lifelong surf bums to trade in their boards for a suit and tie. That is the same reason why I do not wear Doc Martens. Those are the only shoes that some crusty punks own. I can’t be responsible for destroying their image.

I think more people need to have that kind of self-awareness. Don’t take this to mean I am criticizing Abby Champion for picking up the board, though. I fully support her performing any sport that requires her to ride, gyrate, or wear a swimsuit. Surfing covers all three.
