‘Queen and Slim’ Debut Trailer Introduces “The Black Bonnie and Clyde”

Following some killer supporting turns in films like Widows and Black Panther, Get Out's Daniel Kaluuya is back in the lead—or co-lead anyway—in the new drama Queen & Slim. Following a disastrous first date, Slim (Kaluuya) and Queen (Nightflyers' Jodie Turner-Smith) find themselves on the lam after shooting a cop. Now this mismatched pair is on the lam, making headlines, and finding themselves on a collision course with destiny.

The film marks the feature writing debut of Lena Waithe (The Chi, Master of None) and feature directorial debut of Melina Matsoukas, who helmed Beyoncé's video for "Formation." While Bokeem Woodbine's character in the trailer dubs Queen and Slim "the black Bonnie & Clyde," the comparison isn't quite apt. They don't appear to be on a crime spree of any kind, but then again, one never knows what could happen.

This is a decent premise for a film and one that is sure to spark a lot of debate and discussion. Based solely on the trailer and the film's pedigree, I doubt there's going to be anything conventional about the film. Plus Chloë Sevigny is in it, and she's never been in a conventional movie. Ever.

Queen & Slim hits theaters on November 27.
