Disney's trend of turning their animated classics into live action films isn't going away any time soon. Next year we've got Tim Burton returning with Dumbo, Jon Favreau with The Lion King, and Guy Ritchie making his Disney debut with Aladdin.

One of Disney's highest grossing films of all time, Aladdin coasted by on the manic energy of Robin Williams' Genie, a task this remake hands to Will Smith. While this first trailer doesn't introduce this version of the character, it does show us the lamp where he's imprisoned being discovered by the title character, played by Mena Massoud (Jack Ryan).

And that's about it. No sign of any of the other characters like Naomi Scott's Jasmine or Marwan Kenzari's evil Jafar, though that bird flying around in the beginning of the clip might be his pet Iago. Frequent Tim Burton collaborator John August co-wrote the script with Ritchie, and Alan Menken is also returning with some new songs to pad the 90 minute original out to a bladder-challenging two hours plus.

Check out a closer look at the lamp, front and center on the film's poster, below and let us know if this project excites you at all. Or perhaps you're like me, an exhausted parent sick of dragging my kids to the theater to see inferior versions of films we could have watched at home.

Aladdin opens on May 24, 2019.
