DC and the Director of ‘The Hangover’ Bringing Joker Origin Film to the Screen

DC's run of terrible decision making is no longer in their rearview mirror. After Wonder Woman, everyone thought that DC was getting back on track and was ready to make good films again, but as a wise man once said, Nothing good ever lasts. 

Deadline is reporting that DC has hired Todd Phillips—the man behind Old School and The Hangover trilogy—to direct a gritty origin film centered around its most famous villain, The Joker. The article states that the film won't be tied to any previous iteration of the character, including its current miscalculation played by Jared Leto, but will rather be a standalone film produced under a new division of DC Films that will be devoted to non-canon side stories. 

Compounding what already sounds like an absolutely terrible idea, they're also bringing Martin Scorsese aboard as a producer on the film in a bid to bring a more authentic, crime ridden New York feel to the film...

The intention is to make a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-’80s Gotham City that isn’t meant to feel like a DC movie as much as one of Scorsese’s films from that era, like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull or The King Of Comedy.  

Todd Phillips needs to stick to being the guy who's here for the gang bang and Martin Scorsese, god love him, needs to be nowhere near a comic book property.
