The unveiling of the 10-foot-tall Robocop statue was supposed to happen yesterday in Detroit, but like so many disappointments in that once fair city, the people's hopes were dashed at the last minute. For over a year the government and police department of city Detroit have tried to stop the erection of the statue. They say that the whole Robocop thing makes the city look back. After all, Robocop was created because Detroit had become such an unbelievable craphole that only a technomasculine robot cop could curtail the crime. True, it's not the best advertisement for the city. But a statue of Robocop is sure to boost tourism, which let's face it, has been suffering. The unveiling was supposed to happen yesterday along with Robocop throwing out the first pitch at Comerica park. But at the last minute the unveiling was cancelled for unexplained reasons. Though Robocop did throw out the first pitch.

What are you afraid of, Detroit? What's the worse that happens? That the Robocop statue comes to life and cleans up your streets for real? I've been to Detroit...there are worse things that could happen. As far as it making you look bad, I got news for you...you already look bad. So, embrace Robocop and maybe, just maybe, it will inspire a newer and better Detroit.
