It's official: Paul Rudd has signed on to star in director Edgar Wright's Ant-Man. The Anchorman 2 actor will play Hank Pym, a brilliant scientist who discovers a chemical substance that allows him to alter his size. Wright has previously stated that both Pym and Scott Lang, a later incarnation of Ant-Man, will appear in the film. If that remains the case, there's no word yet on who will play the part of Lang.

Normally, this is where the Internet flips its proverbial lid and complains ad nauseam about the casting decision. But honestly, when dealing with a character like Ant-Man, it's hard gauge. Unlike more iconic characters such as Batman or Superman, Ant-Man has never been depicted in film or television (aside from Garrett Morris in that old SNL sketch). Sure, hardcore comic fans will have their opinions, but for the causal fan, the character is basically a blank slate. Without a preconceived notion about what Ant-Man should look and act like in the flesh, Rudd has the unique opportunity to truly make the character his own.
