Apparently Vinz Clortho (A.K.A. Rick Moranis) Might Come Out of Retirement for ‘Ghostbusters 3’

Everyone knows that Ghostbusters 3 has been in the works for years decades thanks to the epic foot-dragging of Bill Murray, who wouldn't even read scripts for the film, let alone sign off on them. However, it was recently revealed that said foot-dragging has been put to rest.

What's that you say? Has Bill Murray finally agreed to be in GB3? Yeah, no. But according to Dan Akroyd, the studio was able to divest Murray of his franchise rights, which means he had no longer has any legal authority hold the project up. So now the project is really going to happen...allegedly.

Of course, a Ghostbusters without Dr. Peter Venkman is obviously a major problem. But it's hardly the only problem. Lost in our obsession with Bill Murray's role (or lack thereof) in the new GB effort was the story of another crucial member of the original cast. I am talking, of course, about Rick Moranis, whose turns as Louis Tully/The Keymaster/Vinz Clortho in the first two films were pure comic genius. Unbeknownst to many, Moranis retired from acting back in 1997, six years after his wife succumbed to cancer, so he could spend more time with his kids. And in previous years, when asked about Ghostbusters 3, Moranis said he was out.

Now, apparently, Maranis has reconsidered. Here's what the Canuck comedian had to say in an exclusive interview with Empire Magazine:

I haven't talked to Danny [Aykroyd] about it. Somebody he's associated with called me and I said, 'I wouldn't not do it, but it's got to be good.' You know, I'm not interested in doing anything I've already done, and I thought the second one was a disappointment. But I guess I'm interested in where that guy is now. I sort of see him as being Bernie Madoff's cellmate in jail. Both of them being so orderly that they race to get up and make their beds.

So there you have it. If we had to choose one, we'd probably take Bill Murray over Rick Moranis. But that being said, Rick Moranis would definitely make a Bill Murray-less Ghostbusters more palatable.
