Fate Must be on the Side of the Redskins

It's been a long time since the Washington Redskins have been relevant in their division let alone the conference or league. They haven't won the NFC East since 1999. The last four seasons they came in last. In the last two decades they've won two playoff games and been to the post season just four times.

Since he became the majority shareholder in 1999, owner Dan Snyder hasn't hesitated to spend money in order to make the team into a winner. No matter how much he dished out though, the results never quite justified the means.

If Monday night's game is any indication, the Redskins luck could finally be changing for the better.

When Robert Griffin III fumbled in the first quarter on a run near the goal line fans probably felt their hearts just drop. You can't afford to make mistakes like that when you play the defending Super Bowl champs. However, when the Redskins fumble it appears that all is not lost.

This is the second time that a miracle touchdown has been scored off a RG3 fumble. If we didn't know better, it would almost be believable if the ‘Skins said they designed it that way. After all, when you watch the replay it almost looks smooth enough to be on purpose.

Griffin had his own explanation for plays like the now infamous Monday night one:

"God's on our side…"

Well, if their 12th man is the man upstairs then the rest of the league better watch out.

While a little divine intervention would be/has been helpful to the Redskins cause, their success is not luck but RG3 and rookie running back AlfredMorris doing what they do best. So far Morris is tied for third in the league in rushing with 1106 yards.

Griffin of course deserves the lion's share of the credit. While he may get lucky on occasion like he did Monday night, he is having one of the best seasons of any QB in the league. Through the Monday night game he has the third highest QB rating in the league at 104.4, and  is completing 67.1 percent of his throws, putting him fifth in the league, with just four interceptions.

There have been some growing pains along the way, but that is expected with any rookie that plays as much as he does.

Washington is still on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoffs, but that hasn't stopped Snyder from expressing his pleasure with how the team is doing. Following the Monday night win it's been reported that he was congratulating everyone he saw and then exclaimed at one point:

"I hate those motherf——"

Just think what he'll say if the Redskins actually make the playoffs!
