Purge Looks to Feed the Need of Mirror’s Edge Fans

Remember Mirror's Edge? While the game itself ended up making a pretty mediocre splash in the video game industry, the idea behind the game was really unique and open players' eyes a bit to the possibilities of having a game not be able shooting soldiers in a war. With Mirror's Edge, players were cast into the role of a messenger named Faith, who's tasked with getting across a city through a dangerous course of enemies and obstacles utilizing nothing more than the sweet ass moves of parkour.

Mirror's Edge came out four years ago and, while fans of the game continue to beg EA for a sequel, it may be a while before we receive another installment in the series...if ever. Luckily for us, there seems to be another possible diamond in the rough emerging via Steam's Greenlight program. The upcoming PC title Purge looks to be following the example set forth by Mirror's Edge, putting players into a very similar first-person role of a parkour-loving protagonist who must survive the treacherous streets of the fictional city 'Dul'Halasa'.

Purge is a platforms game with a first person camera, where you'll have to use stealth and parkour to avoid the enemies and escape. Use the abilities at your disposal like wallrun, pipe climbing, ledge grabbing and more to reach the only route to run away from the agonizing city of Dul'Halasa.

At first glance, Purge may look like a Mirror's Edge clone but, after playing the demo, you can really see the difference between the two. Purge has a lot of the same mechanics as Mirror's Edge with a race-like feel in first person view; objects that can be interacted with glow when the player nears. However, Purge's depressing art style depicts a dying slum of a city; filled with browns and oranges and utilizing the same cell-shading art that can be found in larger games such as Borderlands.
