There is Only One Way to Get to the Bottom of Bounty-Gate

Since we don't have access to Wonder Woman's lasso of truth we will have to use the next best thing--former FBI director Louis Freeh.

All the NFL has given us is a peek at the evidence. To call that crap weak is being generous. That stuff is so weak it makes O.J Simpson's defense look good. The players aren't much better screaming about the lack of evidence and how come the NFL doesn't show it. On occasion they even proclaim they're innocent.

It's hard to believe either party, but this mess is not going to go away anytime soon unless Roger Goodell backs off or the players do (and that's not going to happen).

Lucky for us at least the Saints owner, Tom Benson, wants to get down to the heart of the matter. Benson has hired Freeh to come to New Orleans and dig into every nook and cranny of the Saints to find out all the dirt that may or may not be hiding. Along with the specter of the bounty scandal hanging overhead the Saints still have to deal with the accusation that GM Mickey Loomis had his box wired to listen into the opposition.

Benson really should be applauded for this move. Feeh showed with Penn State that he is not going to pull any punches in his investigation, legendary coach or not. If someone screwed up, he will find out and let the truth be known (unlike the NFL's special prosecutor who only wanted people to see her view and nothing else).

Bounty gate is a mess, but as it stands right now I'm inclined to side with the players. Should they be guilty though, they of course deserve whatever punishment they get. If the NFL and players involved in the case are smart they'd differ all their ridiculous lawsuits and penalties till Freeh finished up his investigation.

At least then we'll finally have some answers. If there's anything NFL fans deserve it is the truth; not only are we entitled to, but we can handle it.
