Cliff Lee Finally Wins!

There are some things in the world of baseball that are just considered givens. The Yankees will be on top of the AL East, Albert Pujols is going to be crushing balls, and Cliff Lee is going to be dominating opposing batters to name a few.

For much of the 2012 season it appeared as if pigs were flying and hell had frozen over with the Yankees playing more like the Baltimore Orioles of old, Albert Pujols hitting as well as Stevie Wonder could, and Cliff Lee unable to win a game to save his life.

It may have taken half the season, but the world is almost right. The Yankees sit on top of the AL East, The Machine is hitting .272 and has 13 home runs to his name, and Cliff Lee has finally (finally!!!) won a game.

Lee was finally able to break into the win column with a 9-2 victory over the New York Mets on Wednesday. For much of the game it appeared as if it was going to be another solid, but disappointing outing for the perennial all-star. The Mets had scattered seven hits over the first five innings scoring two; not bad, but the Phillies offense had been stifled for most of the day failing to score a run to help Lee out.

They made it up to him over the final three by exploding for 10 hits and nine runs. Lee didn't get pulled till after the 8th inning so with a lead in hand he was finally able to get a win.

I would've loved to have a win a long time ago,'' Lee said. ''I wouldn't say it doesn't matter, but it's something I can't control. Sometimes, weird things happen.

Weird has been the order of the day for the Phillies so far in 2012. Their normally dominant pitching staff is currently ranked No. 21 in the League with an ERA of  4.19. The team is currently in last place in the NL East with a record of 37-46, 12 games behind the Washington Nationals for first.
