The Bowl Championship Series, the BCS, has been a pretty sore spot for college football fans throughout its 14 year existence. The goal of the BCS was to help sort out the true National Champion in a sport that relied on votes instead of actual championship games.

Now that the powers of college football are finally leaning towards a four team playoff to determine the National Champion, it appears the BCS label will be dropped, largely because of the negativity and foul-taste that comes with it.

Sources tell CBSSports.com's Dennis Dodd that the BCS name just couldn't be attached to a playoff that "eventually" will be second only to the Super Bowl. That's a pretty lofty goal, but probably not too far off.
