Selena Gomez Might Be a Scammer!

Is Selena Gomez a scammer? That's the question making the rounds after investors filed a federal lawsuit accusing the pop star and her co-founders of misleading them over Wondermind, the mental-health startup Gomez launched with her mother, Mandy Teefey, and entrepreneur Daniella Pierson.

The lawsuit alleges that investors put nearly $1.2 million into Wondermind based on representations about the company's plans, resources and Gomez's involvement.

Among the claims: that Gomez would play an active role in marketing and helping develop the company, while promised initiatives, including a mobile app and certain corporate partnerships, never materialized.

And this isn't the first time Wondermind has faced scrutiny. A 2025 investigation by The Cut painted a chaotic picture of the company, reporting on financial problems, management turmoil and allegations from former employees about Teefey's behavior as CEO.

The publication's investigation described a startup that had gone from a buzzy celebrity-backed mental-health venture to one struggling behind the scenes.

That's what makes the current lawsuit particularly interesting. Wondermind was built around the idea of making mental health more accessible, with Gomez's enormous celebrity platform giving the company instant credibility and visibility. Investors now allege that they relied on that star power when deciding to put their money into the business.

Gomez's attorney has called the claims "meritless" and said they intend to seek dismissal. A representative for Gomez has also said she invested millions of her own money into Wondermind and wasn't involved in its day-to-day operations.

Still, the allegations raise some pretty uncomfortable questions. If investors were promised a functioning mental-health company backed by one of the world's biggest celebrities, what exactly happened to that vision?
