It was the late 1980s when former bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger uttered the powerful words "If I'm not me, den who da hell am I?"

With a tip of the hat to the original Total Recall (not that travesty that just came out in theaters to a resounding thud) Capcom's Remember Me is the latest original intellectual property to take that concept of identity lost/stolen and apply it to a next generation video game. What appears to be a typical third person action game with a kung fu-fighting female hero spins into a series of mind-twisting mini missions that will affect the main narrative.

The key with Remember Me will be the degree of fun involved with trial-and-error gameplay once you're in another character's mind trying different tasks in order to produce a specific result. Nobody likes repeating steps over and over --we only tolerated it in Super Mario Bros because the alternatives were lousy-- so making the mind tinkering parts of Remember Me stand out as worthy and innovative will be very important.

The intro trailer below is flashy but not as informative as the seven minute Memory Remix trailer above. Memory Remixing seems to be the gameplay element that's supposed to make Remember Me standout. This and the amazing vision of Paris in the year 2084 could be enough to carry this game to the top of some most wanted lists. The fact that many of the buildings shown in what's suppose to be 2084 Paris would have to be built starting now isn't as much of a stumble as the other important fact: robots will have totally taken over everything according to Robotron 2084.

For a game not due out until May 2013, the gameplay shown in the demonstration looks definitive. Keep your eyes on Egotastic for more on Remember Me.
