DC Reportedly Wants Tom Cruise to Play an Older Green Lantern

Remember, like, a year ago when Tom Cruise was the face of the future of Universal's Monster Shared Cinematic Universe? Well, we all saw how that turned out, so Cruise is currently without a franchise to call his own. Except for Mission Impossible. And Jack Reacher. And Top Gun, technically. Let me rephrase. Tom Cruise is currently without a comic book franchise to call his own, but DC wants to put an end to that and bring Cruise into their ever-changing DCEU.

According to That Hashtag Show, DC is trying to get Oscar winning screenwriter—and director of three recent Tom Cruise films—Christopher McQuarrie to come on board and direct the Green Lantern Corps movie. Their pitch for the film is that it's a buddy cop type movie with a seasoned veteran Green Lantern—who is likely getting too old for this shit—being paired with a cocky, hotshot Green Lantern. Bringing McQuarrie in to direct the film would then, theoretically, lead to them casting Cruise as the older part of that equation.

I'm not opposed to this notion by any stretch of the imagination. The Mummy notwithstanding, Cruise can still do some pretty great flicks and turn in solid performances. If you haven't seen Edge of Tomorrow, I couldn't recommend it anymore strongly. It's the best movie he's done in years and if they can get that Tom Cruise to show up again, I think this could work. Hell, DC's willing to try anything at this point, so what have they got to lose. Just don't cast someone awful as the brash younger Green Lantern.
