‘Incredibles 2’ Full Trailer Finally Unveiled (VIDEO)

One of the crown jewels in Pixar's royal headgear is 2004's The Incredibles, a film that remains one of the defining superhero films of the new millennium—and for my money, it's the best adaptation of Watchmen we'll ever get. Therefore, it's not surprising that the Mouse House would demand a sequel. What is surprising, however, is that writer/director Brad Bird has decided to take us right back to the end of the first film and continue the story of the Parr family from there.

That's right, folks. In case you didn't already know, this summer's Incredibles 2 is a direct continuation of the first film. The basic plot seems to be that a new mystery benefactor wants to support future superhero endeavors, but only with Helen Parr, aka Elastigirl. This leaves Bob Parr's Mr. Incredible to stay home with the kids and do all that female stuff that men hate so much, amirite?

One should never judge a Pixar film by the trailer alone, but I can't be the only one that's a little disappointed in this plot. It seems like it's ripped right out of a mid-90s playbook where it's funny to see a big strong man taking care of a baby. It's like that movie Mr. Nanny with pork enthusiast Hulk Hogan. Or basically any movie with Hulk Hogan or The Barbarian Brothers or any other muscular dudes changing diapers.

Brad Bird has my utmost trust, though. The guy's a genius and I'm still holding out hope they give him a Star Wars movie to direct one of these days. In the meantime, let's keep our fingers crossed that there's more to this movie than the trailers have indicated. Incredibles 2 opens on June 15.
