‘Worms WMD’ Is Worms, Jim, But Not (Quite) As We Know It

Oh, Worms. We’ve had a love/hate relationship over the years, haven’t we? Or, I guess, more of a love/not really assed about relationship. Thing is, I dig your batshit crazy brand of turn-based strategy, but you’ve just been pimping it out a little too much. Once you’ve hit the likes of Worms Crazy Golf, you’ve probably flogged the dead horse as flogtastically flogily as a dead horse can be flogged.

The series is at its best when it ditches the experimentation, like Worms 3D, and brings us the straight-up vintage action we all know and love. I’ve been in and out because it’s been bringing us said action too damn often, but maybe it’s time to jump back in.

The spangly new Worms W.M.D just dropped a trailer, and it’s on our way in late August. It can be hard to relive the glory days of a franchise without just descending into rehash territory, and that’s the mix Team 17 are trying to get down here. The old and the new, living together in perfect harmony, Ebony and Ivory style.

The toontastic art style reminds me of my beloved Worms Armageddon, which gives me a happy tingle of nostalgic pleasure in my pants-parts. Aside from that, there are a couple new elements in there, with vehicles as power-ups, buildings to enter and the ability to craft new weapons from tools you pick up among them.

If good ol’ fashioned worms with a new twist is something you could get on board with, give the trailer an ogle:
