If you’ve been lurking around the Gaming section of our beloved Egotastic! for a while (high five and brofist if you have, we are now BFFs), you’ll have noticed a lil’ healthy cynicism about this whole VR thing. I’ll admit, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive leave me slightly confused and afraid; like the first time the tribesmen were introduced to cameras and thought the magic box would steal their souls.

I’m not saying we should burn Palmer Luckey at the stake or anything, but I’m not not saying it either. The tech also seems kinda superfluous to me, impressive but unnecessary in a hey-ma-look-what-I-can-do sort of way. Showing off and steaming ahead with no effs given to the consequences; the sort of thinking that leads to Jurassic Park and/or genetically-engineered mice with big ol’ human ears on their backs.

But hey, everyone was sceptical about touchscreen gaming when the DS was first announced. Maybe this really is the Next Big Thing (tm) for video games. Do something badass and sell us on the whole idea, developers. That’s all I’m asking.

You were on the right track with Time Machine VR. Now here’s something else I could get on board with: A virtual reality tour around the worlds of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Captain America: Civil War.

Damn, Disney, you’re so much cooler than you were when I was a kid. Disney Movies VR hit the Steam store yesterday, for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. It’s a ‘VR experience,’ not a game proper, but if you’ve ever wanted to take a virtual trip through Jakku or the Avengers’ HQ, have at it on Steam now.
