‘Thunderdome’: Because Flying Chainsaw Bears Are Just What You Need On A Monday Morning

Video games are a hell of a thing. Sometimes, you can have yourself a genuinely deep, emotional and powerful experience, like the recent That Dragon, Cancer. This Steam title is the real-life story of two new parents and their brief life with their son, who was diagnosed with the disease at an early age. It's a gut-wrenching thing, and I'm damned if I didn't shed a studly man-tear or two during the course of it.

I know, those are usually reserved for movie moments like the ending of Saving Private Ryan or the T800's sad little thumbs up as his ass is burning in Terminator 2, but this totally warranted it. It's not the first time games have had that effect on me/us, either, and it sure as hell won't be the last.

With all of that said, though, games are primarily made to entertain us. To be played for fun. There's always space for an emotion-tastic narrative, I get that, but there's even more space to just embrace the batshit and bring us flying chainsaw bears fighting to the death.

Ego-gents, meet Thunderdome. The way Kotaku tells it, the idea is to compete with other chainsaw bears to kill the most humans in your lil' pit arena thing. Bloody square chunks of bloody blood-amundo. Should that be too tame for you, you can also, as I promised in the last paragraph, just engage in a bit of bearo-a-bearo chainsaw combat.
