For all I know, some of you Ego-readers might be shapeshifting aliens who came to Earth and infiltrated our society in the last decade and a half or so. If that’s the case, I’ve a couple things to say. First, welcome. We’ve got a lot of love to share here at Egotastic!, and we don’t judge anyone. Hope you stick around. Second, you chose the right time to come to our humble planet, because you just missed the nineties.

The nineties, as the humans among us who remember them will know, sucked ass for the most part. Everyone’s fashion sense was horrendous. Ditto for hairstyles. The Internet was only just becoming a thing; Prince Nbongo of Nigeria hadn’t gotten around to offering foreign strangers his fortune in exchange for their bank details yet. Eminem had barely even pulled his ‘surprise! I’m a white guy!’ trick yet, come to that. Man, it was a primitive time.

Still, there was always The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. There was Sonic the Hedgehog. There was also the unquestionable, beautiful glory of nineties commercials.

Combining those last two things, we have this. What’s coming your way is a Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition snarky ‘infomercial’, rammed with all the ‘tude and edginess of the time. It’s just a little joke on Sega’s part (man, they’re pushing the nostalgia factor of Mania hard), but I really dig it. I give the PR guys fourteen thumbs up for this one.
