Either the hackers are really good, or the IT security guys working for big-name corporation are really bad. Over the past few months, site after site has either fallen under the control of notorious hacking groups or regretfully informing their users that a security breach has been recorded.

The latest of these string of hacks was the breach that involved the leaking of nearly 6.5 million passwords that belong to LinkedIn users. Obviously, the next step to take, as a user, would be to change all your current passwords and update your email addresses to make sure no one else can have access to your personal accounts.

Instead of giving you a list of guidelines on what types of password combinations to go for, antivirus service firm ESET is doing things differently by giving you a list of the world's 25 most common and most-used passwords instead, so you can avoid them if you know what's good for you.

Here they are:

  1. password
  2. 123456
  3. 12345678
  4. 1234
  5. qwerty
  6. 12345
  7. dragon
  8. pussy
  9. baseball
  10. football
  11. letmein
  12. monkey
  13. 696969
  14. abc123
  15. mustang
  16. michael
  17. shadow
  18. master
  19. jennifer
  20. 111111
  21. 2000
  22. jordan
  23. superman
  24. harley
  25. 1234567

Choosing a password comprised of the word 'password' has got to be the dumbest thing to do ever. If you see your password on the list, then you know what you need to do: change it and throw in some numbers mixed with uppercase and lowercase characters for a change.
