The Great Pumpkin Cometh: The History Of Halloween

Gallery Icon

bill-swift - November 1, 2012

Today is Halloween, the day in which we celebrate all things scary by dressing up and eating candy. If you are a kid, you wear costumes and go door to door threatening your neighbors into giving you sweet treats or else. If you are an adult, you go to parties where women dress like slutty nurses or slutty cats and drink spiked punch out of bowls full of dry ice. Though there is nothing about what I described above that isn't totally awesome, they are bizarre things to do. How did these traditions come from? At what point did we Americans decide that dressing like a freakshow and risking type-2 diabetes was a cool thing to do? Well, hark ye mortals and despair at our history of Halloween.
