Terrell Owens is Out of Work Again; Time for the UFL?

Terrell Owens seemed like a potential steal when he signed with the Seattle Seahawks for the league minimum, but as it turns out the man with the second most receiving yards in the history of the NFL was a bust. Owens made the announcement to his Twitter followers Sunday that he had been released from the Seahawks.

I'm no longer a Seahawk. I THANK the organization 4 the opportunity. I'm truly blessed beyond belief. My FAITH is intact & will NOT waiver.

The move does not come as much of a surprise. Owens had not played well in what preseason action he saw. Against the Broncos he failed to record a catch, but it wasn't for lack of opportunities. He was targeted five times during the game including one pass from Matt Flynn that would have been a 46-yard touchdown had Owens not dropped it.

He didn't do much better against the Kansas City Chiefs Friday night. He dropped a couple more passes and appeared to quit on a deep route. He did have one beautiful catch, a 40-yard pass in the third quarter, but that was just one shining moment sandwiched in between a lot of duds.

Rumor has it that the same old TO had been rearing his ugly head around practice as well although there have been no reported or confirmed incidents of Owens acting out. If he had been, that combined with the same lack of effort that helped him get cut from an indoor football team earlier in the summer was simply too much when the team has better options (on and off the field).

This will likely be the end for Owens unless he wants to head over to the UFL. His infamous attitude problems have been enough for most teams to stay at arm's length, but add in the reported lack of effort and you have the nail in the proverbial coffin.

His only possible hope would be to turn it around with a UFL team. Many of the teams do have former NFL players on them so it's not like he will be playing with a bunch of scrubs. After nearly folding the UFL is in dire need of something or someone who people will want to watch so even with his issues Owens any team would be glad to have him.

Should he actually get serious and start playing football again he just might find a few NFL teams interested in adding him once the UFL season is over. If not, this could be the end of a brilliant, but tumultuous career.
