Predicting the MLB Regular Season Award Winners

With the final out of the last game played Wednesday night, the regular season officially ended. Now, the 2012 post season will begin with the wild card teams from each league facing off in a one-game play-off to see who goes on to their respective division series.

With all of that excitement brewing around Major League Baseball, there will also be the talk of who deserves to win the various regular season awards. This season saw some really strong performances from a lot of players, but only a select few can win something for it. Will your favorite be one of them?

Welcome to the Champagne Room – The Yankees Celebrate AL East Crown

Chris Bosh
Really, really liked his champagne celebration Read More »

They're pretty used to this by now, but the New York Yankees sprayed the hell out of each with champagne and beer last night to celebrate clinching the American League East division championship. They did it on the final day, making it all that much sweeter I suppose.

As a kid I watched teams do this and always thought that it looked like so much fun. As an adult, I watch this and think, 'what an incredible waste of booze.' Of course, it's not like the champagne money is coming out of their pockets, so I guess if somebody else was footing the bill it wouldn't be such a tragic waste of the sweet nectar.

So the Evil Empire won another division crown and the playoffs start tomorrow with the one game wildcard round. Will the winners of those games spray champagne to celebrate getting to the next wildcard round?

That was Quick and Unsurprising – Bobby Valentine Fired by the Red Sox

The move that nobody thought would work, bringing Bobby Valentine into manage the Boston Red Sox, didn't and now it's over. Boston announced that Valentine is no longer an employee of their organization. This being 2012, the Sox made the announcement via Twitter. What an ugly, ugly season in Boston.

Going! Going! Gone!– Miguel Cabrera Wins First Triple Crown in 45 Years

Every summer there are kids all over the country that stand at home plate of their local ball park and think about how cool it would be to be included in the same breath as some of the greatest players to ever play the game.

For one kid that dream came true with the end of the 2012 regular season. He didn't do anything at the plate in his team’s regular season finale Wednesday night, but he did enough the other 161 games. After hitting .330 with 44 home runs and 139 RBIs Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera won the first Triple Crown in Major League Baseball in 45 years.

The competition was pretty stiff; as early as last week he was in second in home runs behind Texas Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton. After going 4-5 with a home run against Kansas City on Monday he moved ahead of Hamilton with two games to go. Hamilton was also second in RBIs with 128.

Now whenever anyone talks about some of the greatest hitters in the game they will mention Carl Yastremski, Frank Robinson, Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams, Lou Gehrig, Ty Cobb and Miguel Cabrera. He is just the 16th Triple Crown winner and the 14th player to win it dating back to 1878 when Paul Hines of the Providence Grays did so after hitting .358 with four home runs and 50 RBIs.

MLB Postseason Race Starting to Clear Up

You would think that after more than 150 games that the playoff picture might be pretty clear, right? If that was the case fans would have little reason to watch baseball this last week not to mention how boring that would be.

For many of the Boys of Summer the last six or seven games still hold a lot of meaning. Much of the National League playoff picture is set, but the American League is still very much up for grabs. If you’re wondering who is in and who will be in just keep reading!

National League Wildcard Race is Going to be a Tight One

At the beginning of the season it is a common tactic for coaches to talk about it being a new year and how everyone has a chance to win their division. When the season is starting fresh that statement is absolutely true. However, as the season goes on most of them end up out of the running till only a few remain.

That is not the case this season. With less than three weeks to go it would be easier to say who is out of the running for a postseason berth rather than who is still in it.

American League Postseason Race Still Wide Open

With less than three weeks to go there are an unbelievable number of teams that are still mathematically in the hunt for a spot in the 2012 MLB postseason. Some might frown and call that parity. I like to smile and just think about it as good 'ole fashioned competition.

Since there are still 15-17 games left for most of the teams in the league there are eight teams still vying for one of five playoff spots (three division winners and two wild cards) in the American League. The following is a break down of each division along with the wild card race:
