I’ll Have Another Takes the Preakness Stakes

Once again Bodemeister was the favorite heading into the race, but it was I'll Have Another that decided to, well--have another.

For much of the race it appeared as if it was Bodemeister's race to lose. As the horses made the final turn, Bodemeister was out in front and running strong. However, just like at the Kentucky Derby a couple weeks ago, I'll Have Another came charging on the outside looking to win the Race for the Black-Eyed Susans.

Field for 137th Preakness Stakes is Set

So does anyone have a tip on a good horse? That will likely be a phrase heard often around the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland, this Saturday for the 137th running of the Preakness Stakes.

Like the other two legs of the Triple Crown, the Preakness has a long and storied history. The first race was run back on May 27, 1873. Survivor won easily (by 10 lengths) to take home the hefty purse of $2050. More than a century passed before another horse won by such a large margin (Smarty Jones by 11 ½ lengths in 2004).

I’ll Have Another Wins 138th Kentucky Derby (VIDEO)

138th Kentucky Derby

If there is one phrase that is likely heard often throughout the weekend of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs it is I'll have another. It's warm out, the sun is shining, it's a great day for a party, and mint juleps are absolutely yummy. After Saturday's 138th running of the "Race for the Roses" the phrase will be heard even more in horse racing circles.

Why? Because that's who won the 138th version of the legendary Kentucky Derby.

Bodemeister was the favorite going in. For most of the race he appeared to be the clear cut winner too. I'll Have Another was in the back of the pack for much of the race, but when the horses made that final turn I'll Have Another made his move. He went on to win by 1 1/2 lengths, and become the first horse that started in the No 19 position to win the historic race.

There was a record crowd of over 165,000 on hand to watch the race known as the "fastest two minutes in sports." I'll Have Another is the second long shot (12:1) in a row to win the Derby. The odds on last year's winner, Animal Kingdom, were 20.9:1.
