Madden 13 Overrated These NFL Players to the Point of Absurdity

There are other players in this gameplay video too. Read More »

Fans sitting at bar stools throw hyperbole and reckless qualifiers around the favorite sports teams and athletes like it's a national past time. The beauty of a game like Madden 13 is that the term "overrated" can be used literally since the game assigns point value, on a scale of 5-100, for specific player abilities that cover everything from athleticism (speed, strength, accleration) to position specific skills (tackle breaking for RBs, kickin power for punters).

When we say a guy is overrated around here, there are numerical values that go with that claim and that can be argued for days on end. There's no reason to fear argument, disagreement or reckless hyperbole when it comes to Madden 13 ratings. The folks at EA SPORTS do this stuff on purpose, just to get under the skin and agitate like splinter of poison oak.

So now, we present a handful of players Madden 13 has overrated --as in their player ratings are too high-- and forced upon us because of hype, endorsement deals and who the hell knows why. Eli Manning, just take your Super Bowl rings and realize you're a damn good QB but really, you're no better after this Super Bowl win than you were after your last Super Bowl win.

DOA 5 Screens Will Make You Explode All Over Your Keyboard (PHOTOS)

And after watching the vignette for the 900 + time, we  conclude that we can not be more excited with the potential of having a Ryu look-a-like destroy the bridge where he just kicked your butt. Fighter momentum is still a factor when it comes to the environment in Dead or Alive 5. Watch out for the combo interactions in the triangle system and blockbuster-type effect because they will make you explode. You have been warned.

Beyond: Two Souls Screens Are Haunting (PHOTOS)

We love the fact that Beyond: Two Souls a) exists and b) is being pushed like a major motion picture. Ellen Page is the headliner and you already know we love that, but something tells me there will be other, if not big, at least medium-named actors involved in this thing as well. You know, a bunch of "hey, it's that one guy!" type of actors.

In listing the powers we've seen out of Ellen Page's Jodie Holmes we're stuck on two: telekinesis and talking to the voices in her head. That's a good start for any aspiring video game hero.

The Last of Us Eyes-On Preview and Gallery (PHOTOS)

The Last of Us has been moving to the top of many most wanted lists in the last six months as more and more details about the game's story and gameplay elements come to light. We've still got some time before Egotastic! can dive in and get a full understanding of the control, the enemies, the inventory and all of the other gameplay systems because this game will surely have some sophisticated intertwining elements. However, we did learn a few things via observation about The Last of Us that make this game look very promising.

Two things jumped out in the presentation we saw. First, the game constantly communicates the number of enemies you're dealing with when you encounter them. Second, Ellie (the secondary character to Joel, the dude you're controlling) seems to be more of an asset than a burden. These two pieces blend together which might be a third observation point, now that I think about it.

We still have only seen the other human survivors and none of the infected people that have taken over a fallen United States some years after a viral epidemic of some kind. Your fellow human scavengers appear to be major threats as we see Joel and Ellie encounter a group in what seems to be an old motel. Ellie is always updating you on the number and attitude of human you encounter. She tells you when a group of four turns out to be six and that they're distracted, or angry, or armed with weapons. Being stealthy also seems important as it allows you to get a full understanding of the situation and devise a plan on the fly.

Knowing the number of enemies let's you count bullets in your weapon and, in this case of the demo we saw, see that you don't have enough head shots for everybody. This is probably how it's going to be in The Last of Us. Accuracy, planning and maybe a little luck will be currency in this game, not running-and-gunning. Something tells me though, that whatever you call the infected humans, they won't go down with just one bullet to the dome. That's just how it is in video games.

At first glance, I thought The Last of Us might be one long escort mission where you, as the hero, have to protect this helpless kid while moving through a hostile environment. This might involve a lot of running back and forth, stashing and retrieving and other tedious work. And The Last of Us might still turn out that way. However, in the demo we saw, Ellie was a clutch teammate more than anything and she did it without picking up a weapon. The little girl stays hidden and creeps around better than you. When Joel is stuck in a tight situation and only has five bullets for seven bad guys, it's Ellie who pops up, distracts the bad guys and throws an object upside his head. In the demo, Joel is then free to rush the bad guy, disarm him and win the day.

The official line on The Last of Us says that this is a game about "love, loyalty and redemption." If Ellie and Joel truly watching each other's back is how this is going to be expressed then we're on to another chapter in survival games.

NBA Live 13: These Screens Show Where We’re Headed (PHOTOS)

Once upon a time I was convinced that the rebirth of EA SPORTS' NBA Live 13 --it's been three years since EA SPORTS' last NBA sim-- would be one of the biggest stories in sports games if not games in general. I'm not so sold on that now given Live 13's appearance at E3. It's not that NBA Live didn't look good, it's that NBA Live only looked good. The character models (meaning how accurate the players look) have been the focus of everything EA SPORTS has shown so far.

We had a brief eyes-on preview but the animation and basketball "infrastructure" of the game were both very rough and not really worth evaluating....and that's for Live 13's own good. Yes you can see Kevin Garnett's jaw jutting out and read the text on LeBron James' tattoo. That's all wonderful for screenshots like the ones we have for you here. However, if we slide into August or September and EA is still talking about how good the players look, as opposed to groundbreaking basketball controls or A.I., NBA Live 13 is in trouble.

Hitman: Absolution %u2018Newspaper%u2019 Offers Charming Marketing Twist (PHOTO)

When it comes to stealth/assassination games, the Hitman series has always stood apart because of its main character’s iconic look: a slick suit and a bald head with the bar code on the back. Agent 47 has always been much more of a ‘real world’ operative mingling in the lives of everyday anonymous citizens while stalking his prey as opposed to being some government agent or special operations sniper trying to change world history. Agent 47 is your friendly neighborhood psychopath.
