Todd Phillips Eats His Words as ‘Fast & Furious’ Clobbers ‘Hangover’ at Holiday Weekend Box Office

Trash Talk Bites Phillips in the Ass

Back in April at the CinemaCon in Vegas, director Todd Phillips was asked if he was nervous about the third installment of his Hangover trilogy going up against Fast & Furious 6 over Memorial Day weekend. His answer took the form of an expletive-laden rant that concluded thusly:

“Come on, it’s … Vin Diesel and the Rock.”

Even at the time this seemed a little arrogant. I mean, the dude was talking about Fast & Furious 6 like he had just made Godfather II instead of a movie that gets most of its laughs from a half-naked Asian man.

Well, guess what, Todd? It turns out that everybody loves Vin Diesel, The Rock, and Fast & Furious 6—the critics who gave it a 72% over at Rotten Tomatoes, as well as the fans who forked over $120 million to see it over the last four days. Meanwhile, Hangover III? Not so much. The critics blasted the thing, and it earned just $51.2 million at the box office.

Will it end up making money for Warner Brothers? Yeah, probably. But not much. The thing cost them a whopping $103 million to make, thanks in large part to the increase in actors’ salaries—which including a $5 million payday for the afore-mentioned half-naked Asian man.

So here’s a new rule for directors: if your name isn’t Steven Spielberg or James Cameron, no trash-talking.

Go Ahead. Pre-Oder the ‘Fast 6′ Blu-Ray Before You Even See the Film. You Know You Want To.

Pre-Order 'Fast & Furious 6' on Blu-Ray RIGHT NOW!

Look man, the critics love Fast & Furious 6 and Vin Diesel loves Fast & Furious 6. Do you honestly think there is any chance in hell that you, too, will not also love Fast & Furious 6?

Right. There is no chance. You are going to love it. So what the hell are you waiting for? Just go ahead and pre-order the Fast & Furious 6 Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack right now. It’s only $20.99 over at Amazon. What are you, some kind of communist who doesn’t buy things?

Okay, I’m totally kidding. There’s no rush. Go ahead and see the Fast & Furious 6 at your local cineplex tonight. Then go to Amazon and pre-order the blu-ray. After all, Universal is counting on you.

You see, after Oblivion, Star Trek, and Iron Man 3 had such strong opening weekend Blu-ray/DVD pre-order sales, Universal has decided to do the same thing with Fast & Furious 6 to capitalize on all that enthusiasm you’re going to have after you watch that epic tank chase scene.

Smart move, don’t you think?

Wait, no, don’t think. Just buy.

Michelle Rodriguez Wouldn’t Change a Thing About Her Role in the First Fast & Furious (VIDEO)

Can I Knock This Guy Out Right Here?

It’s opening day for Fast & Furious 6 and all signs point to box office gold. And according to early reviews, worthy gold as the film delivers exactly what is promises – fast cars, hot girls, and lots of stunts involving the two. It’s not aiming too high, but, hey, we’re not such high minded people here. Crash, boom, boobs. I’ll take that.

We had a chance to send one of our intrepid reporters off to London to interview Michelle Rodriguez before the Britty premiere of the film and asked her a bunch of random stuff, but our favorite response came from the answer to what Michelle might tell Michelle of the very first Fast & Furious if she could go back in time. Kind of cool. And very very Michelle Rodriguez. Enjoy.

Everyone Loves a Lil’ Girl-On-Girl Action…Scene. Especially ‘Fast and Furious 6′

I’ll be the first to admit that I know nothing about cars. Don’t know my pistons from my shocks or my V-8s from my Ocean Sprays. But I do know a lot about girl-on-girl scenes. Maybe it was my time as a creative consultant on The L Word, or perhaps it was that year I spent as a prison guard at an all-female penitentiary in the backwoods of Louisiana, but I’ve earned a PhD in Cat Fights that hangs framed on my wall. And that’s why when I heard about the Michelle Rodriguez/Gina Carano brawl in Fast and Furious 6, I knew I was in for something special.

If you’ve seen any of the trailers for the movie, then you know I’m not spoiling anything when I reveal that Rodriguez is returning to the franchise as Letty, the role she originated in 2001′s The Fast and the Furious and although she was back behind the wheel in Fast and Furious, the character took a one-movie death hiatus, only to return once again. As for Rodriguez, you don’t get your start in a movie called Girl Fight and not know how to kick some ass. And coming from a background of MMA fighting, well–Let’s just say Gina Carona could probably take me apart limb by limb with only one hand. And I’d love every minute of it. Read more… »

Six Car Stunt Videos from ‘Fast and Furious 6′ Tease an Explosive Sequel (VIDEO)

Fast and Furious 6 Stunt Video
Hey JLin, We Want More Action!

Fast cars, sexy ladies, and heart-racing car chases are three things that have never been absent in a Fast and Furious movie, and director Justin Lin has no plans in changing that formula up for the fifth sequel in the franchise.

Filming for Fast and Furious 6 is well under way in various locations. And while you might be treated to fast-paced car chase segments and explosions that look like they could actually kill somebody, that’s really not what goes down when they’re shooting those scenes.

Six videos of the Fast and Furious 6 crew filming various stunts on Tenerife, which is the largest of the seven Canary Islands, were recently made online by and we’ve got them all for you right here.

Hit the jump for five more clips from the making of Fast and Furious 6, which hits theaters on May 24th next year. Enjoy!

Sequel Talk: What’s Up with ‘Kick-Ass 2′, ‘Fast & Furious 6′, and ‘Captain America 2′

The sequel to Dumb and Dumber might be in limbo, but Kick-Ass 2 sure isn’t. And that might be good news to fans of the most unconventional superhero movie in Hollywood, because it’ll mean that Jim Carrey will have a free schedule and more time on his hands so he can join the cast of Kick-Ass 2. If he wants to, that is. News just broke that Universal Pictures wants him to play Colonel Stars in the movie, and it would be awesome if he took on the role. It is Jim, after all.

While things might be heating up on the set of Fast & Furious 6, it looks like the cast still have time to chill and have a laugh or two with each other off-camera. Dwayne Johnson has been keen to share updates on the sixth movie of the franchise by posting photos and timely tweets, and so is the movie’s official Twitter feed, which has just released a candid shot of the other stars of the movie, namely Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, and director Justin Lin.

Finally, we’ve got Captain America: The Winter Soldier. This sequel has been a long time coming. We all know Chris Evans will be back as the one and only titular character, but who will be joining him as his leading lady? The NY Post recently revealed the shortlist of the female lead for the movie, and they’re all pretty amazing gals: Anna Kendrick, Imogen Poots and Felicity Jones. But of course, there can only be one. Who’s got your vote?

Sequel Talk: What’s Up with ‘Fast & Furious 6′, ‘Iron Man 3′, and ‘Kick-Ass 2′

Fast cars, hot girls, and Dwayne Johnson. Those are three things you can expect from Fast and Furious 6, where you can expect another heist of magnanimous proportions. Filming for the sixth movie in the franchise officially began at the end of last month, and already things look like they’re heating up. Johnson recently tweeted a picture of himself with co-star Gina Carano, offering the world a peek at what the gang have in stored for all of us.

It looks like Iron Man is currently going through a rough patch. The real Iron Man, that is. Robert Downey Jr. was injured on the set, which caused the production for Iron Man 3 to be temporarily shut down. Marvel revealed that Downey had sustained an ankle injury, although they didn’t offer any specifics on what happened. Thankfully, the injury seems to be minimal so it looks like the movie will screen as announced on May 3, 2013.

Two new faces are set to join the already supercharged cast of Kick-Ass 2. It’s unconventional as far as superhero movies (and stories) go, so we’re definitely excited for this one. Morris Chestnut will be taking on the role that Omari Hardwick played in the first movie, where he’ll be serving as the guardian of Chloe Moretz‘s Hit-Girl. Meanwhile, Robert Emms will be playing a policeman who takes on a secret identity as Insect Man so he can do things that he normally wouldn’t be allowed to under the law.
