Kaspersky: Apple’s Security is Ten Years Behind Microsoft’s

Apple Security

Apple has made a name for itself in the world of consumer electronics, but they're not exactly the hottest thing on the block when it comes to security.

Viruses that infect OS X devices were usually unheard of, because few cybercriminals were willing to go through all the effort of writing up code and breaking exploiting systems that only had a few users. Up until now, that is.

It’s an iWorld: Apple Sells 645,000 Devices a Day in Q2

Apple Q2 Sales

Apple is one of the world's most well-known consumer electronics manufacturer. The Cupertino-based firm shot to prominence with the release of the iPod back in 2001, which was soon followed by newer generations of the device, including the iPod Touch. Apple then proceeded to launch the company's first smartphone, the iPhone, and then their first tablet computer, the iPad.

Apple has celebrated countless milestones as sales of these devices pushed past hundreds of millions worldwide. As of 2011, over 300 million iPods, 100 million iPhones, and 15.4 iPads have been sold. And the numbers aren't slowing down anytime soon.

What We Know About iOS 6 – So Far

Apple may be more tight lipped then the average made man, but that has not stopped a slew of technology bloggers from wiggling bits of information, here are there, out about the newest iOS. For those of you living under a rock the iOS is not the operating system for Mac computers, but for the bevy of mobile devices they make (iTouch, iPhone, iPad) that have eaten up a good portion of market share over the last couple of years. So what's coming next for iDevices?

Well, here is a look at what is expected, though for now nothing is officially on the record:

Mac Infected with Flashback? Newly-Released Apple Tool Will Help You Get Rid of It

It's the end of a virus-free era for Macs everywhere. Earlier this month, it was reported that a trojan called Flashback infected over 600,000 machines by exploiting a security hole in Java. Once the Mac is infected, the virus monitors the user's network traffic to steal personal information like user names and passwords.

Flashback has been around since September 2011, but this latest strain has caused the worst outbreak yet for Macs.

Apple Responds to Batterygate: 100% iPad Recharge is “By Design”

Apple has finally addressed the Batterygate issues that arose late last month about its new iPad. Ray Soneira, who is DisplayMate Technologies Corporation's President, tinkered with his iPad and made the discovery that the latest version of Apple's tablet continued to charge, even though its battery icon shows it to be completely charged.

Apple's VP, Michael Tchao, laid the issue to rest in an interview he gave with All Things D. Tchao explained that Apple intended for the iPad to show that it was "100%" charged just before the device is completely charged. At that point, it will go on to charge to completion, then discharge for a short period of time, before charging back up to 100 percent. This process repeats until the users unplugs the device from the charger.

Report: Apple’s Next iPhone to Sport a Bigger 4.6-inch Display

Apple might have heard its share of complaints from users with regards to issues on its just released new iPad (I still don't get why they didn't just name it the iPad 3): first, because it was literally too hot to handle, and second, because it had a fibbing battery charge indicator.

In typical Apple fashion, the company waved off the first of the complaints, stating that the new iPad's operating temperature was well within their thermal specifications. They kept mum on the second assertion though, maybe because they didn't think it was that important and probably because someone else looked into it (see this article) and presented his findings to the concerned iPad users.

Apple’s Batterygate: iPad 3 Continues to Charge Even at 100% Battery Power

It seems Apple has some fixing (or explaining) to do when it comes to the new iPad's battery. First of all, there was word about a battery overheating problem which was pointed out by a reviewer from Consumer Reports.

During our tests, I held the new iPad in my hands. When it was at its hottest, it felt very warm but not especially uncomfortable if held for a brief period.

-- Donna Tapellini, Reviewer

This claim was backed by a number of other iPad users, who noticed the same thing and voiced their complaints on Apple's support page. And it seems like another battery-related problem for the iPad 3 has recently surfaced: the battery continue to charge for another 2 hours and 10 minutes--even though the menu bar icon shows that it's already 100% full!
