“Suicide Squad” Actors Need Therapy

When I was in college studying theater, you were always encouraged to try and get into the headspace of your character as much as possible. This meant that, depending on who you were playing, you were going to try and think like a really messed up individual. We've all heard stories about actors that take it too far with the whole method thing, (I'm looking at you Daniel Day Lewis). Apparently, Suicide Squad director David Ayers is really messing with the heads of his cast members. It seems that in trying to get them to think and act like the villains in the film they have BECOME villains. Probably just acting like spoiled actors. Ayers has even hired a therapist/life coach to be on set in case people go bananas. Adam Beach, who plays Slipknot says of Ayers' method,

"So if your character is tormented, he wants you to torment yourself. He wants the real thing. We kind of have like a therapist on board if you fall off the wagon and really are villainous."

Look, I'm all for verisimilitude, but when you are messing with your actors so much that they need therapy, you might want to rethink your directing style.
