The phrase "the book is better than the movie" is something we always hear from the friend that believes they're better than everyone else. Yes, I completely understand books have the advantage of delving into nuances that film can’t completely cover, but keep your superiority complex to yourself. Shailene Woodley was the latest to humblebrag about how TV doesn’t fit into her busy schedule of reading books. I mean admitting you rather read a book than offer an opinion about a new TV show up for nominations at the Emmys is basically playing a game of guess who found the vegan evangelist at a Texas BBQ. You’ll never win those people over.

E! News host Jason Kennedy asked Shailene which of the other nominated shows she watched, and rather than lie and say The Handmaid’s Tale for the sake of looking relatable for all of 30 seconds, she gave an extremely Shailene reply. “All my friends watch TV. I just ask them when they have time to. When do people have time to? I’m a reader. So I always read a book instead of turning on my TV.” Shailene decided to ditch her house and live out of a single suitcase back in 2014.

It’s important to note that Shailene is a voluntary vagabond. She gave her house to her grandma and chose to live a bare minimum minimalist lifestyle. All of her worldly belongings are able to fit in a suitcase. Which goes against the exact reason why people become celebrities. To buy an exorbitant amount of shit you don’t need. Just to put inside a house you’re never home because you’re always trying to land the next lead role. Because irrelevancy doesn’t keep on the lights in your mansion. Wait. Maybe Woodley is on to something. Maybe crowdfunding your celebrity career and using the library to rent free books for your entertainment instead of cable is what life is really about.
