Several ‘Avatar’ Sequels and a Prequel Are On The Way! Should We Give a Damn?

There is so much confusion over James Cameron's return to the world of the Na'vi that it's already about as dramatic as the first instalment to the franchise! First he told us he was making two films back-to-back, then his producer revealed that there would only be one, now he's just bad mouthing The Matrix sequels. For good reason, they're both awful but it still seems a bit harsh.

The thing is despite making about $3 trillion a couple of years ago, is anyone actually that bothered about a sequel? Pandora wasn't that interesting was it? I mean, surely we've seen enough of Michelle Rodriguez's face for a life time?

Others disagree though. So here are the reasons why we should and shouldn't all be het up in anticipation for the Avatar sequels.

James Cameron's Track Record - Aliens and Terminator 2 are awesome.  Not only did they come after two incredibly exciting and revolutionary films, but they somehow managed to eclipse both of them too. I wouldn't bet against him doing the same again.

Cameron's Already Over stretching Himself - The latest news has it that we will have Avatar 2, 3 and 4 over the next few years. You can only admire Cameron's optimism. He's already said that Avatar 4 will be a prequel that explores humankind's arrival to the planet despite the fact we've yet to have either 2 or 3. Keep your head in the game Cameron!

It's Going To Be Really Serious - It was another quote from the director which truly worried me though. He's promised that the saga "won't imitate Star Wars." That's it I'm done! I'd love to see some campy robots get destroyed by a lanky blue monster. Instead I'll have to put up with Sigourney Weaver talking about the environment and how we're all destroying it one by one. Cry me a river love.

They Might Not Happen - So am I supposed to be excited over a sequel that might not actually see the light of day? What happens if Avatar 2 and 3 suck? What about if they don't but no one goes to see them? It's unlikely I know, but let's see how we all respond to the next two instalments first before I book my own flight to Pandora.

Um .... I got nothing! - Other than Cameron's track record I can see no earthly reason why audiences should be excited over the Avatar sequels. Sure, maybe a second one would be cool, but a third and fourth? Come on people! I'll only get excited when I see a Die Hard Goes To Avatar poster. Then I'll admit I'm wrong and cream myself.
