In your deepest and darkest desires, did you ever really want to know how Scooby-Doo came to be owned by a group of teenage sleuths, or for that matter, how that group of teenage sleuths known as Mystery, Inc. got formed? No, you didn't. Even the world's biggest Scooby-Doo fan can't possibly bring themselves to give a fraction of a shit how the gang got together, but Hollywood continues delivering things no one asked for with the upcoming animated film Scoob!.

As you can see from the above trailer, the film chronicles how Scooby and Shaggy (voiced by Will Forte) first became friends and then how the two of them hooked up with Fred (Zac Efron), Daphne (Amanda Seyfried), and Velma (Gina Rodriguez). There's also an assortment of additional Hanna Barbera cartoon characters involved such as Blue Falcon (Mark Wahlberg), Captain Caveman (Tracy Morgan), Dick Dastardly (Jason Isaacs), and Dynomutt (gulp, Ken Jeong). Animation veteran Tony Cervone is directing from a script by Kelly Fremon Craig (Edge of Seventeen), based on a story by Matt Lieberman (Playing with Fire, now in theaters!).

Quick word to Will Forte, dude, you should've turned this down. No matter how good or faithful a job you do, you're gonna get hounded for not sounding like Casey Kasem. Matthew Lillard has been doing a bang-up job as the character both in live action and animated form since the early aughts. You really should've deferred to him on this one, no matter how many dump trucks full of money they drove to your house.

Scoob! opens on May 15, 2020
