It's A Trilogy - The Two Towers is generally regarded as the weakest part of the original trio. And you can see why, because it suffers from not possessing an authentic beginning or ending, and it simply moves the story along without any real conclusion. The Hobbit novel is almost a third of the size of The Lord of The Rings books, so Jackson's plan to extend it to a trilogy is likely to result in the middle section suffering again. But without as much source material as before, it could be even worse!
